In 1991, James Darknell and Ken Hughes had been writing songs together for a few years and managed to get signed to Sonic Design Records, a tiny label out of Soquel, CA.
The label took the newly-minted album Inner City to MIDEM in Cannes, and . . . nothing happened.
The project came to the predictable conclusion; boxes of unsold cassettes languished in a closet until they almost certainly ended up in a trash can somewhere.
In 2014, James and Ken, each by then married with kids, went to see Thomas Dolby's Invisible Lighthouse performance in San Francisco. On the drive up from San Jose, James said, "I have this idea. I don't know if it's a GOOD idea, but what if we remade that little album we did all those years ago?"
Inner City Revisited is the seven best songs from the 1991 non-release, re-conceived and newly produced, with a few extras, bonus tracks, and recent additions.
